The majority of existing commercial air conditioning chillers installed over the past 25 years operates on refrigerant R22.

In recent years scientific research has proven beyond question that a major contribution to the depletion of the earth’s ozone layer has been due to the gradual release into the atmosphere of CFC gases as found in refrigerant R22.

Once this link between refrigerants and the ozone layer had been established, World Governments, the Chemical Industry and air conditioning manufacturers responded quickly and developed a new generation of ozone friendly refrigerants and chillers.

Once the performance of the new refrigerants was established, legislation was passed banning the production of the environmentally harmful R22 from the year 2010.

After this date only limited stocks of R22 will be available which we anticipate will soon become exhausted.

Already with the above deadlines set, building owners are actively forward planning their chiller replacement strategies to avoid the inevitable last minute rush and long delivery periods as the demand for new chillers outstrips manufacturing production.
